Coding Technologies has developed enhancement technologies for
perceptual audio codecs enabling totally new services like mobile
music download and streaming, or digital broadcasting in the AM
bands. Besides developing these technologies, Coding Technologies
provides highly optimized implementations on multiple hardware
and software platforms to enable fast time to market for its customer
products.

The
aacPlus audio codec family consists
of three MPEG technologies: Advanced Audio Coding (AAC),
coupled with Coding Technologies' groundbreaking Spectral Band
Replication (SBR) and Parametric Stereo (PS) technologies.
aacPlus v1 was standardized by MPEG as MPEG-4 HE AAC, combining
AAC and SBR. With the addition of Parametric Stereo, aacPlus v2
is the state-of-the-art low bit rate open standards audio codec.

MPEG
Surround introduces a new paradigm in multichannel audio coding,
leading to another major step in compression efficiency. Jointly
developed by Coding Technologies, Fraunhofer IIS, Philips and
Agere, MPEG Surround offers unprecedented opportunities for existing
as well as for new services in all fields of digital audio and
audio/video distribution. MPEG Surround can be combined with any
audio codec standardized in MPEG, the resulting compression system
will offer 5.1 multi-channel audio coding at bit rates only slightly
above the normal operating range of the underlying core codec
in stereo mode.

mp3PRO
is the next version of MP3. Compatible with all existing MP3 content
and encoders, mp3PRO achieves CD quality at 64 kbps. mp3PRO cuts
your streaming bandwidth bill in half and doubles the amount of
music on your portable player. Already widely deployed for Internet streaming, mp3PRO will migrate to replace existing
MP3.

Spectral
Band Replication (SBR) fundamentally enables a new wave of
high quality audio services such as mobile streaming via 2.5 and
3G networks, digital radio services, or Internet streaming. SBR
can be used to either enhance audio quality at a given bit rate
or to decrease the bit rate required for a given application.
The combination of AAC and SBR is called aacPlus v1 within the
aacPlus audio codec family.

Parametric
Stereo (PS) is an enhancement technology for low bit rate
stereo signals by recreating the stereo image based on the parametric
stereo information transmitted along a mono bit stream. Jointly
developed by Coding Technologies and Philips, Parametric Stereo
increases the compression efficiency of aacPlus a second time.
The combination of AAC, SBR and PS is called aacPlus v2 and is
fully specified in MPEG-4.

Applications of these technologies are already in widespread use
and are gaining more and more importance for mobile,
digital radio, and Internet
audio distribution.
